Eleanor Martino Voice and Speech

Due to the arrival of a long-awaited new addition to our family, and our upcoming move, the office is now closed. I am happy to provide rederral information or answer general questions by phone or email. Thank you to everyone who supported my private practice!

We provide speech therapy services for adults and children.

Evaluations:

A full evaluation is required prior to beginning treatment in order to obtain accurate baseline data and formulate a treatment plan. If you have a recent evaluation from elsewhere, Eleanor will review this information and determine if it is sufficient to write a treatment plan and proceed with therapy. We may need to do additional or updated assessment. We also need to re-evaluate every 6 months to a year in order to update the treatment plan.

The evaluation fee includes an in-depth interview to obtain medical history, one or two evaluation sessions, a detailed written report and a brief meeting to discuss results.

Therapy:

The number of sessions required to meet treatment goals depends on many factors, including the type and severity of delay or disorder, and implementation of therapy recommendations at home.

Adult speech and language therapy

  • Stroke-related speech and swallowing disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysphagia and dysarthria)
  • Primary progressive aphasia
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Cognitive rehabilitation
  • Dementia (evaluations, supportive strategies and caregiver education)
  • Dysarthria (speech disorders due to Parkinson disease and other neurological conditions) - see Voice Therapy page
  • Swallow therapy and transition from tube feeding to oral feeding

Pediatric speech and feeding therapy

Eleanor is certified in Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention, trained in PROMPT, and has worked with many children with speech delays and disorders and feeding difficulties due to a syndrome, seizure disorder, chromosomal difference or birth injury. She has also worked with many children with apraxia, autism, auditory processing disorder, sensory processing disorder, tracheostomies, and feeding tubes.

Speech and Autism Screenings:

Low-cost speech and language screenings are available, and an autism screening may be added at no additional charge. These screenings are designed to cast a wide net and identify children who may be at risk but do not necessarily have a speech delay or autism, so that they are then referred as needed for in-depth evaluation.

Speech pathologists are often the first professionals to discuss these concerns with families and perform evaluations which report on development, signs and symptoms. Autism diagnosis is typically made by developmental pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, child psychologists, or child psychiatrists. We strongly recommend intensive ABA (applied behavior analysis) services for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, in addition to other beneficial therapies.
